What is cloud storage?
If someone were to ask me what is cloud storage, I would tell them this - it's like having a hard drive on the Internet. The beauty of cloud storage? Is the ability to have all your files whether it be pictures, movies (Apple doesn't support flash videos - those are the .flv files), Microsoft Office docs (view only) to PDF files etc all accessible through the different platforms such as the PC/Mac, Apple iPhone or iPad. That means you can read and annotate your eBook on your iPad and see the changes on your PC automatically or transfer and view pictures taken from your Apple iPhone to your PC/Mac. All devices must be connected to the web so they can automatically sync. If one device is not connected to the web, it will not update until it is connected to the Internet. Why did I build this website?
The
purpose of this site is to provide a resource for locating Free cloud
storage. Throughout this site, I have outlined the most popular cloud
storage providers to get you going on your journey to building free
space on the cloud. I am sure there will be many more as time goes by
and I will do my best to post them to this site.
As of June 19th, 2012 - I am collectively using the following cloud storage solutions:
- Dropbox at 6.8 GB,
- Microsoft SkyDrive at 25 GB,
- Box at 50 GB,
- SugarSync at 5 GB,
- Google Drive at 5 GB
for a total of 91.8 GB and it is all FREE!
I
was fortunate enough to receive a bump in FREE online storage for
Microsoft SkyDrive from the initial 7 GB to 25 GB as they were running a
FREE promo a while back and I was elgible. The same situation also
applied to Box as I went from 5 GB to 50 GB. I was one happy camper :)
For those that think managing multiple online cloud services can be daunting, think of each one as a big folder. For example, Dropbox is indispensible for me because I can use either Plaintext or Elements to edit text files on the go while the others don't except for SugarSync. For the other cloud storage providers, I am currently using Microsoft SkyDrive to host my videos and pdfs while the remaining are used to host other stuff like family pictures or videos. I also have stuff separated by various projects, the possibilities are endless.
Conclusion
All in all, thank
you for taking the time to visit my site on FREE public cloud
storage solutions I use everyday. If you have any
questions or know of any additional free storage solutions, drop me an email and I will include it in a future article so we can all share and let everyone know whats out there. Take care for now!
